I stumbled across your blog while searching for the 2019 IM Italy athlete guide. Great post and I will be reading this a few times before September this year when I race it. Any chance you have a saved version of the 2019 IM Italy athlete guide? Thanks!

Hello David. Tim and I both agree that Barcelona is the better race. Barcelona is a better course and the finish line is incredible. So much energy there. Tim loved the bike ride…rolling hills with views of the Mediterranean Sea. I think that the Barcelona swim course is nicer too with better water clarity. Both have flat runs with great crowd support. Italy is a great race, but yes, the road conditions were rough in some spots, but not too bad, at least not in 2017.

Have you done any other races in Europe? Tim and I are trying to decide between IM Frankfurt (the European Championship) and IM Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain for 2020.

In reply to Dave. Hello Dave. The courses are similar and race support is great at both of them. The finish line at Barcelona was better (louder, more exciting). It comes down to whether you would rather spend time in Barcelona or Venice. But you can't go wrong with either...they both make awesome destination races. Cheers, Julie
