In just a few days, my wife and I will be leaving for Prague and Budapest with our friends and travel companions, K & J. What’s going through my mind just weeks before our trip, my favorite travel quote; I have two actually, the first is by Mark Twain:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do,” once mused Mark Twain. “So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I do not want to be disappointed. With that being said, my wife and I take every opportunity to travel, and “Explore. Dream. Discover,” makes for a nice blog title.
My favorite of the two quotes is by Pico Lyer:
“We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.”
I have read and re-read this quote countless times. I ponder over the words and get lost in quiet moments of self-examination and reflection. So, why keep a journal, or in this case, a blog? I like to travel, and writing quiets the voices in my head.
So as Day (my wife’s name is Day) and I prepare for our trip, I consider the person I have become over the years. Day and I are incredibly fortunate, we share a great life together. That however, does not mean I am a great person, the person I want to be, or more importantly, the person I was meant to be.
So, the week before vacation, I ponder Pico Lyer’s words, and I think; I travel to lose the person I have become, in hopes of finding the person I was meant to be. Maybe I will find that person in Prague or Budapest.
Luv ya, Curly
Great quotes. You will never regret the time you’ve spent traveling – it’s addicting! Enjoy!
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog!
